CIDER MILL VISIT and NATURE WALK

Sunday, October 17, 2021 at 3:00 p.m.

Yates Cider Mill

1990 E. Avon Rd, Rochester Hills, MI
(near Dequindre and 23 Mile Rd.)

With a history that dates back to 1863, Yates Grist Mill opened its doors beside the rapidly flowing water of the "then" Clinton-Kalamazoo Canal. Amidst the beautiful countryside of Rochester, Michigan the memories began in full bloom.

The Clinton River cascades over the Yates Dam, which supplies the headwaters to power the mill. The Dam was built to create a stream that the Mill uses for waterpower.

By 1876, the Yates family installed a cider press. They incorporated their cider press into the existing water-powered process and began producing delicious Michigan cider. It then became known as Yates Cider Mill.

Did you know that the taste and color of cider varies over the course of the fall season? As each week passes, different cider flavors can be blended to round-out the taste. By mid-October, as many as six different varieties of apples are combined!

Sunday, August 25, 2019  12:30 pm, Bishop Park in Wyandotte

Join MCAC for a Diamond Jack Detroit River Boat tour.  This year we are taking the "up river" tour to nature preserve islands, Historic Fort Wayne, the J.W. Wescott mailboat, riverside gardens, underneath the Ambassador Bridge, along Windsor's Dieppe Park, and to other sights.  The tour leaves from Bishop Park in Wyandotte.  It returns at 3:00 pm.  We have arranged a discounted price of $16 (regularly $21). Payment for the cruise is done when boarding the boat.  Both credit cards and cash are accepted. Beer, wine, and snacks are available on board!

Afterwards, for those who wish, we will have "Linner" (late lunch/early dinner) at 3:30 pm at Portofino's Restaurant on the Riverfront in Wyandotte, a few blocks south of Bishop Park.  (Summer dress is very casual at Portofino's, but shoes and shirts are always required.)

RSVP no later than Thursday, August 22 for both or either event to Jerry Staeger at jerrysta@wowway.com or (248) 649-8808. Coupon details will be provided upon RSVP. We look forward to seeing you!
